Madison CT Historical Society – Hike @ Lake Drive Trailhead
1:00 pm
Join us for a hike to the Indian Rock Shelters.

Note: Please wear sturdy weather-appropriate shoes; you may wish to have bug spray and a walking stick, if needed.

Offered in association with the Madison Land Conservation Trust and guided by MHS member and MLCT host Don Rankin, this easy trail takes hikers through the eastern woodlands of north Madison to learn about the natural rock shelter homesites of early Native Americans. The loop trail encompasses the complex watershed system that flows north into the Hammonasset River basin and south to the headwaters of the Neck River. Cliff faces, rock shelters, views of Bartlett Pond, and a diverse forest of beech, maple, oak, birch, ash, and hickory characterize this 1.2 mile trail.

Reach the trailhead by taking Route 79 to Route 80 east. From Route 80, take Summerhill Road north to a left on Twilight Drive. Follow Twilight for 0.5 mile to Lake Drive. Follow Lake Drive to its cul-de-sac, which is the parking area at the trailhead.

The Women’s Club of Madison is hosting a Whist! @ American Legion Hall
6:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Whist is a classic card game of trick-taking hands of cards which are dealt to a table of four players. Following each hand of play, players from the table move to other seats playing other folks in the room and eventually return to the “home” table with chips. The winners have the highest tallies of points in chips at the final hand.  It is fast moving and is very easy to understand and follow. The rules are extremely simple and will be explained by the Caller throughout the evening.
