If you’re like many of us, your free moments are spent at home with the TV tuned into HGTV or other home remodeling or DIY programs. Whether to get ideas for actual remodeling projects or just because it’s fun to see what’s possible, the increasing popularity of these shows tells us one thing – we want to improve our homes to feel more like home, more like us, or just something we’d be proud to show off when friends come to visit.

This month, the Madison Chamber is holding its annual Antiques show on the Green – with one major twist. The show is now the Antiques, Vintage and Repurposed Goods Show. While true antique hunters may range in age, the idea of vintage and repurposed goods appeals to a younger or perhaps DIY-centric audience.

“We’re trying to attract a larger audience, casting a wider net,” said Eileen Banisch, Executive Director of the Madison Chamber of Commerce. “We wanted to attract more dealers and more attendees, and we came to realize there is an interest in things that aren’t just brand new. They want items that have some history to them but are serving a new purpose.”

“You’re going to find not just your usual furniture and china,” continued Banisch. “There will be things for the garden or outdoor use, always nautical items, old tools made into something else. Last year, for example, there was the back of the wooden chair turned into a wall rack for towels. I’m still kicking myself for not getting it!”

The Madison Chamber’s Antiques, Vintage and Repurposed Goods Show is on the Town Green from 9am-4pm, rain or shine, on Saturday, September 16. Screenshot the coupon on the ad here to get $1 off admission, normally $4 per person.
